I dont know if there was a dune thread before or not, but here goes.
Anyone here dig the Sci-Fi channel version? I like it a whole lot and I just picked up the new 3 disc edition on dvd- very sweet indeed. I think this version blows away the Lynch directed version (despite the fact that it had bowie and jean luc picard from star trek- Patrick Stewart). Anyways, this new 3 disc edition has an extra 30 minutes added in. Sweet indeed.
So, anyone dig dune? Anyone read the book? A couple of guys I work with read it and they say that the sci fi channel version is pretty close. Anyone have any thoughts about all this?
Sorry, I'm really into dune right now

Actually, the Lynch version didn't have Bowie in it - it was Sting
The TV version was more faithful to the book than the movie version, although the movie version just had a better cinematic effect on me than the TV version.
The TV version captured the most important parts of Frank Herbert's novel, and was as faithful to the book as it can be. However, the original Dune movie is more Lynch's movie than Herbert's book ... and it was a great movie at that... the score in the movie was awe-inspiring, as well as the acting.
As an adaptation, the TV version stands out as the better one. But the Lynch movie still comes out ahead for me, coz it was just a better experience to watch it

Doh! I've been watching Labryinth too much!
And yes, the lynch version does have its positives. The music is great and I think the acting is somewhat better (patrick stewart rules).
Hmm, one of these days I'll have to plop down and watch both movies head to head.

bah i missed the tv special. knew it was on just couldnt get to a tv. read the books though so if it is true to the books it cant be all that bad. how much of the written series does it cover though? just the first novel or more?

I had read the books long before the movie came out. I liked the first book. The next two books started losing me.
I felt the movie was a mess.
The mini-series was great and easy for anyone to follow. My wife even loved it.
