BSD when starting Driver (the game :-)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After the start-up screens play I get a BSD that reads:
Error
File name: VMM(01) + 0000DC99
Error: 0E: 0028: C000EC99
Can anyone tell me what this means, & how to fix it? I spent about an hour at the Mickysoft site wasting my time (as usual) trying to find it.....
Thanks!

I don't have the knowledge to look at an error number and identify the problem like that. I would however, suggest that you have a corrupt file somplace, as that is usually the first thing I think when I receive an error like that. Your first step is to reinstall the program. Then, follow the usual steps of closing all other programs, updating all drivers, defragging, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions Gunslinger.
I re-installed the game & Windoze (ME), & de-fragged but it had no effect.
I did the DirectX tests in Sys. info/Tools/DirectX diag. & I got the same error at the Display tab/Test Direct 3D button. After the spinning cube the test that says "This will test Direct 3D using hardware-accelerated rendering." is what gave me the error.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

BTW; I have the box checked to send e-mail when there is a reply but I'm not getting them (just wanted to let you know).

Ok. I have to do a lot of guessing. It appears that you are getting a Virtual Memory Manager error. This is usually due to either low memory, low hard drive space or a bad driver. Most likely, it's a bad driver.
If you are using a Nvidia video card, update your drivers to 7.x, 11.x or 12.x. Don't use 6.x or 10.x.

What does BSD stand for in this case? All this time I thought it was just "Berkley Software Distribution".

"BSD" is a short form of "BSOD" which is a short form of "Blue Screen of Death". That little cute blue screen picture Microsoft forces you to watch when your computer fails. You would think they could be a little more original and make us watch a Technicolor screen or something more entertaining such as pink elephants or dancing worms.......

Thanks Kdr Kane,
I'll make adjustments to the virtual memory. I'm using a 3D Prophet II MX Dual-display video card. I'll e-mail them too to see what they say.
BSD is Blue Screen of Death. It's when you get a blue screen with the errors on it.
Thank you everyone,

If BSD was Blue Screen of Death, is FreeBSD a product of Microsoft?

That can't be Laggy. Nothing is ever free from Microsoft!

A little excessive, but thanks for clearing that up everyone.

You may want to try going into your control panel, click on system, click on the performance tab and then graphics tab. Slide the bar from full to one stop to the left towards none. See if that fixes your problems, if not continue sliding the bar another step towards none, then try it again. If this stops your problem then it is your video card drivers etc. I will agree with Kdr Kane on this one and say it is a bad driver.

I tried adjusting the slide bar in the graphics tab (all the way down). & the virtual memory - no change.
BTW it is a Nvidia video card.
I went to their site & am currently downloading drivers but I'm not sure they're the right ones. I filled out their support form so maybe I'll hear from them.
Thanks all,

Since ya'll like these cute little sayings, here is one from my home page:
"There is no problem that cannot be solved with the RIGHT APPLICATION of HIGH EXPLOSIVES!"

I'm also guessing it's drivers, but BSODs can sometimes be so random.
Chako, what does sliding the bar do? I always thought it put less stress on the video card.

That is correct. Sometimes it fixes glitches (either hardware or driver), and is worth a try as a first step in diagnosing a video card problem. It does however eliminate 3d features and is meant as a stop gap fix until you can narrow down the problem, whether it is hardware or software.

Ok, thanks.
