Milk is healthy. Well, lowfat milk anyway. There is no substantial studies that say otherwise that milk is bad for you. If it is, it's far less of a threat than a lot of other legal foods.
Like the Diabetes link. The #1 cause of Diabetes is Obesity. And it's on the rise because people are a lot more overweight in general than they used to be. Mainly from fast food. If milk contributes to it, it's a small part of it.
Of couse there are exceptions. Some people are Lactose intolorant just like some people are allergic to certain fruits and vegetables. I remember reading that Native Americans are unable to even digest Lactose past a certain age. Not sure if that's true so don't quote me on it.
The worst thing about milk would probably have more to deal with all those steroids and hormones they inject cattle with. But then again, the wide use of preservatives, coloring, and fat/sugar alternatives are probably just as bad if not worse.

Milk is awesome.

Americans are really the only ones who consume large amounts of milk past childhood. Over time, your stomach actually loses the ability to digest milk as well as it could when you were a kid -- the enzymes just aren't there. It's not BAD for you, it's just not necessary to drink milk, especially if you eat other dairy products and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
That's part of the reason that it's physically impossible to drink a gallon of milk in an hour. Your stomach can't break it down as quickly as it would another liquid -- and you'll get sick. (Trust me, I've seen three big strong college boys attempt this and end up on their knees in front of the toilet, pretty much reliably at the 50-minute mark, but hey, try it at your own risk.)
Oh, another gross property of milk -- it's bad for athletes (and people with colds). It stimulates mucous production. Ever tried to run with a throat full of gunk?

Really? I was under the same impression as Shal, although I have never seen it.
Or, did he just take a bottle of Lact-Aid with it?

Milk might be less of a necessity, but I couldn't imagine eating my crunchy corn bran without it!
And to hell with giving up cheese. The goverrnment would have better luck trying to ban alcohol again.

nah, the mucous-dairy link is just a myth.
oh, and bwt, what few hormones might make it into the milk would be destroyed by the pasteurization and your digestive system. theres a reason that steroids are injected for the most part, rather than taken orally. oral steroids are mostly broken down during digestion, only small amounts actually make it to the blood stream. the little bit that might initially make it into your stomach is nothing to worry about. assuming you drink raw milk or eat uncooked meat

That's good to know. All I could think about was that movie with the giant rabbits and the kids drinking milk at the end..hehe

Me too. Except this guy sat there in front of me and drank a 4L bottle of chocolate milk in about an hour. might have been a little under or over.
This guy is crazy though. I think his stomach could survive anything.

I drank somewhere between half and 3/4 a gallon of milk a few years ago, in under 5 minutes.
Posted by: Chako
I don't see the problem.
Sometimes, when I am very thirsty at lunch time, I will buy 2 500ml white milks and drink them quick. That is 1 full litre in less then 2 minutes. Puss in my milk...yummy!
Must say though...milk doesn't taste as good as when I was a kid. These days, I don't drink much of it..preferring water.
Posted by: Ion Silverbolt
I can pretty much live without it except for cereal. And now that I been drinking Skim milk for so long, I can't even tolorate 2% milk or higher.

Same here! I suggest everyone switch to skim milk. It may taste gross at first, but then it will taste so good when you get used to it. I used to drink whole milk and switched to skim now whenever i have milk with the slightest bit of fat in it, it tastes just so much like fatty butter.

I don't know about you guys, but whenever I eat cookies I have to grab a glass of milk.

Whenever I eat cookies, I have an open can of Coke somewhere

Wherever there is an open bottle of kahlua, you'll find milk....

White water (Skim milk) doesn't taste nasty, it doesn't taste like anything.
1% is fine. 2% is usually fine (must be colder than 1% or tastes bad). Whole is intolerable except when mixed (Cereal/drinks/cooking).

It has taste. If it didn't, I would eat cereal with water.

Try it, you might like it better.

Why not substitute a little barley instead of milk.
Pour some Molson or Labats over the cereal.
Yes..I did see this once..shudders.

I have never ate cereal with water. Laggy misquoted me.
Posted by: Chako
I have..and boy....it tastes awful.
Better to eat dry cereal and drink the water afterwards.
EDIT: the most stupid thing I have ever done concerning cereal, other then the above quip...was to mistake salt for sugar.
Salt does not tast good in cereals and milk.
Posted by: redwench
my parents always added sugar to cereal. it wasnt until i was an adult that i learned to actually appreciate the flavor of the cereal. its wierd, as i get older, i want less and less sugar. dont want it on fruit, on cereal, or even much in desserts/candy. one of the few healthy things about changing tastes

Milk is yummy! I love milk, i prefer 2% but with the kids around I usually buy whole milk. Cookies wouldnt be the same without milk and what would i drink with my chips and hot salsa? Water just doesnt cut the heat with hot stuff (unless you mean hot weather)
MMMMM, kahlua and milk. Thanks Nova for reminding me of that
