My doc just put me on the stuff last Fri. Since then I've gone from 1.5 packs to like six cigarettes per day.
And I didn't want to quit in the first place!! I am now going to quit. What the hell...
I wish I hadn't bought that carton last Wed....

good.
since youre not trying to quit, may one ask why you were placed on wellbutrin?
Posted by: Chako
Well the going rate for a single pack of cigarettes in Canada is...drum roll please.......

I said I didn't want to quit. The doc thinks smoking is impairing my body's ability to heal. I agreed that the risks were there and said "Yeah, I should cut down."
He gave me the Wellbutrin to "help control the cravings". It's doing a kick-ass job too

It's hard ... I haven't been smoking since June 22 ... and I was smoking almost a pack a day prior to that - hell, I smoked 22 sticks on June 21, lol .... And it was also a bad time for me to stop smoking since I was also trying to lose weight ... without cigs, the urge to eat isn't helping me...
And no, I had no nicotine patches or pills. I never actually believed in those - they were more like placebos to me....

Good Luck to both of you. I hope you guys succeed and quit smoking for good.

They aren't "magic" pills by any means, but I think it's worth the cost of the prescription (if you have good insurance) even if the effects are psychosomatic.

Cold Turkey! That is what my parents did long ago before I was born and they told me it is a very hard thing to do. Great job to the both of you!

I quit 4 years ago on July 14. Due to an accident at work. I was operating a 6 ton press and got my hand caught. Not a good site, anyway I had to quit or I could lose my fingers. So I used the patch and it helped a little, but the idea of losing fingers was enough for me to quit.

You've got 10, don't worry about losing a few.

That depends on which few you lose! Still I kinda like having 10 don't you?

Keep up the good work both of you! Down with cancer sticks!
Posted by: Darky!
Cancer sticks?
Last time I checked, they were commonly refered to as coffin nails.
Posted by: Swilo
If your cigarettes are hard enough to be nails, you need help.

Good luck to you both. Hubby quit 4 years ago right before I got pregnant with our first, great timing there!
I never picked up the habit so i cant say I know what you are going through but i imagine giving up chocolate and feel the pain

I've finished chewing my nails down to nothing...
I think I'll go beat my forehead against the wall 'til this craving goes away.

I use to get candy to help with the cravings, just a thought.

not the best idea if you dont get a lot of exercise. try celery. or if you hate celery, carrots. even fruit would be a good idea. grapes or other berries are convenient for munching.

I am trying to cope with my cravings by eating saltine or flavored crackers and drinking lotsa water (yeah, it's pretty awful at first ... oh wait, it's still awful). I also make four trips to the gym every week ... two hours each trip. By the time I get home, I'm too pooped to crave. And I even lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks, lol ...
I also got some protein bars just in case I get the urge to nibble on something ... the craving is still very strong, though...

Too much fruit not good for you either, you can get sugar free candy!

1 week, no smoking!
Wheeeeeeeee......
*coughs up more lung butter*

That's great!!! The addiction part is over, now all you have to do is overcome the habit! It's going to be hard but you can get through it! I did it after smoking for over 27 yrs. You can succeed hang in there!! You'll be glad you did.
