Got selected to participate in the beta. It'll be shipped late July.
Anyone else?
I know what I saw at E3 was very Age of Empires ish (of course) with some new twists. I'm looking forward to it.

NOOOO!
They can't keep pumping games out on that aged AOE engine.
Besides nothing can compare to Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
Posted by: philmcneal
heheh accually mythology is a age of series but using 3d engine
will it beat war 3? ............................. maybe for once if microsoft had decent campgains and a better map editor then we'll see
right now war 3 is the king of custom maps :P
galactic battlegrounds wasnt that bad but aoe II was better
Posted by: Tecil
I tried AOE II but didn't like it much. I'm not into the RTS games that much. SW: GB was decent only because it was Star Wars, I still have it installed but haven't played it since they day after Episode II came out...hehe
I doubt it will overtake War3, the player base is to large, and they would have to implement a multiplay service like b.net instead of the zone to make it even comparable.

I'm not terribly thrilled about it. It's just something new to try out. What I saw at E3 at least looked nice, though I didn't have the chance to play it. This, and Rise of Nations looked decent. I enjoyed the AOE series, so I may pick this one up if the beta shows me anything good.

I got accepted into the beta too.

I got selected too. In the WC3 beta, you had to be a US resident, but this betatest will be done all around the world. I hope it's fun, I'm not really an RTS gamer, but maybe this'll change my opinion.

I was selected for the Age of Mythology alpha test as well. This is a totally new engine btw and not the old Age of Empires engine.
I'm so looking forward to this game over Warcraft III. Ensemble pushes the limits of the RTS-genre. Blizzard just stagnates it.
Posted by: Tecil
Yeah I should have looked into it before I posted that. I just assumed that since it had Age Of in the title they would be using the same engine.
/me is ready for his spanking...
Posted by: philmcneal
ya it looks cool and the features looks great!
lets just hope it comes with a GOOD map editor when the full is realised

Dear god. I went on Direct Connect little over an hour after I saw this thread to see them mass messaging "*guy's name* HAS AGE OF MYTHOLOGY LEAKED BETA!! GRAB A SLOT WHILE YOU CAN!!!"
Is there any point to "selected beta testers" anymore?
I mean, everyone I knew and their brother had and played the War3 beta. (Except for me since I figured I didn't have any business playing it since I wasn't selected !)
You might as well call it a free public demo...

Does it matter?
What game company is going to complain about people getting a copy of the beta? That many more eyes examining it.
Posted by: Null Actor
How about the fact that it's almost guaranteed that those 'extra eyes' don't actually give the developer any feedback or input.
Posted by: Gunslinger
Doesn't really matter, feedback or no feedback.
Posted by: Null Actor
Actually, it does.
If the beta has problems, and everyone and their dog plays leaks or cracked versions of it, word will spread based on an item that wasn't final, and wasn't supposed to be public. So before the developer can even get a chance to fix it, there is already negative word of mouth flying around.

Playing a beta centers around feedback, not just playing the game free or before anyone else... stating that feedback does not matter in beta testing is paramount to saying you just play the beta coz it's a free game - which is the wrong reason to participate in it...
Beta testers who don't give feedback are equally to blame for the final game's problems and shortcomings rather than just saying it's the developer's fault... hence, if a game sucks, I blame the beta testers as much as I do the ones who created the game, coz they obviously didn't do what they're supposed to do - which is to make sure the game works for the rest of us...

hm intresting warez talk " sort of " but i'll wait for my copy........................................................ I"LL WAIT
I"LL WAIT
anyways the game looks great.. but so far i don't see any features that makes it better than AOE II other than it's 3D engine.....

I was referring to the people who pirate the beta, as was the scope of the comment. An absence of feedback from those people doesn't make the game any worse.
Posted by: philmcneal
dont worry guys as a good true beta tester i'll report all suggestions to ensemble so they can make the best age of series to date!
I JUST HOPE THIS AGE OF SERIES HAS AN ATTACK COMMAND... GOD I CAN"T LIVE WITHOUT THAT COMMAND IN A RTS
Posted by: philmcneal
did anyone get their aom beta cd yet? not me
Posted by: WD40
I heard that AoE 3 will come out soonish, but the game may not be titled that. Microsoft owns the title "Age of Empires" and Ensemble Studios is getting tired of not owning their own games title. The name they will use is not out yet.
As for AoM im looking forward to it, i just hope its packed with a nice cobra car cheat. AoE was just too hard to play without cheating.
(either that or i suck at RTS games, heh)
