How does this work...the the fps in D2 must be really messed up. I have seen 4 computers, all that vary in specs and the fps are really weird.
-Celeron 600mhz, 192mb Ram 16mb Vid card-Cable connection - 20fps
-P4 1.6ghz 256mb Ram, 16mb Vid Card-56k - 25fps
-P4 1.6ghz 256mb Ram, 64mb Vid Card-Cable Connection - 70fps
-P3 800mhz, 256mb Ram, 4mb Vid Card-Cable Connection-75-80fps!!
How does that happen? Why does one of the worst computers get the best fps?

heh, im guessing its a voodoo card. or the video settings arent the same for all of them.

Nope...The P3 has an integrated Intel card, one other card is an ATI and the other two are Nvidia's.

yes Im curious why I only get 75fps max with my geforce4 ti4200 128meg video card. And it still lags just as much as with my old geforce2 mx. Still freezes on the last fight before baal, and it freezes whenever I kill act bosses... What the heck is going on, lol...

Well, Hamtaro, what's your processor speed and RAM? Those things limit your FPS as well.. Also, do you have the correct (i.e. newest) drivers for your video card?

Yes, drivers can help. I installed the 29.42 detonators and now I get a max fps of ~140. Of course, there's always going to be spots that lag the hell out of any card you will have. For example, in Lut Gholein if I turn on the automap, my fps drops to about 40!
32mb GeForce 2 GTS
512mb PC2100 ram
1700+ @ 1.65GHz Athlon XP

Is there a way to force opengl mode when using a geforce card?

Hamtaro, watch your HD LED. I have the same problem and it's because you're doing some serious reading from your HD for some reason. My computer does it, too. The only way to avoid this is to get a HD with a smokin' HD bus.
