On the heels of plans for new powers to patrol people's Web use, the U.S. government is again turning to technology to monitor suspicious activity in the name of fighting terrorism.

The government has unveiled more details of its Terrorist Information and Prevention System (TIPS), a plan to recruit volunteers across the country who will keep tabs on dubious or suspicious behavior.

"The program will involve the millions of American workers who, in the daily course of their work, are in a unique position to see potentially unusual or suspicious activity in public places," according to the TIPS Web site.

Such workers also could include letter carriers, meter readers and others who would have access to private homes.

It is sad to think it has come down to this; truth is everybody is on edge. I can remember growing up and seeing people talk to one another on the street corner and neighbors sitting on each other’s porch having a friendly chat. Kids playing on playground everywhere! Now I look and I don't see this anymore, people walk by you and don't even look your way. Neighbors living next to each other for years and hardly say "hello!" Kids have no safe place to play anymore, and now your every move is being watched! Your mail being monitored, your Internet activities being scanned, your personal belongings gone through, all in the name of security! What was once the great USA has become paranoid and insecure! Our great nation was founded on these principals and now she has weakened. I fear for my kids and their kids future, I can only imagine what kind of life lies a head for them. Our world seems so large yet so vulnerable one can only ask, "What is to become of us?"

This War on terror is really getting stupid. We have the Al Quada on the run and are going to kill Sadaam. After that, I just thought we were going to take out other groups that were a threat and keep exterminating them as they were spawned. We also have the airport security so it is basically impossible to fly another plane into a building. What is Bush afraid of? Terrorists driving Radio Shack remote controlled cars into our stuff now? This is getting ridiculous.

There was some movie with radio control cars with explosive strapped on top... or was that an episode of the batman cartoon....

Why are people so paranoid about their privacy.
What's the big deal?
Why's it so important?
Wait, no, don't answer that, I don't want a debate.

I think most mailmen have enough to bother with such as dodging angry salivating Rottweilers. Just because they're being asked to be nosey doesn't mean they're going to be.

It's only a matter of time though before one of them uses the civic duty excuse to peek on some girl in her bathroom.
