counter strike troubles

here is my computer's info
AMD K6-2 550MHZ
14.6 GB HD with 6 GB of free space
Windows 98 First Edition
Voodoo3 3000 PCI- with the latest drivers
Aureal Monster 3d Sound Card
I have the latest directx 8.0a installed and I have no problems running other games like d2 and myth 2
when i play CS, i am fine for a while but then it just completely freezes. i have to hit the restart button on my computer and i have tried everything to fix it.
1. re-installed cstrike
2. run repair for voodoo drivers
3. tried direct3d and opengl; same results
4. taken off sound
i don't know what is next try, but this is getting frustrating.
can anybody help?

hehe mine does that to it did that at the bbq at obs house to other peeps puters and it also does it at the mall i go to to play sometimes. i think its inevitable

i have latest everything
every other game I play does not crash.
i have also noticed that OPENGL crashes around every 5 minutes while direct3d crashes every 30+ minutes
i'm about to slit my wrists, SOME ONE HELP ME

Bummer man... Dunno much about Voodoo drivers, but the ones for V3 were already glitchy even before Microsoft released DX8 - and moreso afterwards ...
Instead of slitting your wrists, I'd suggest buying a decent nVidia card first...

i have no problems with around 6 other games that I have played...except Sacrifice, that just quits. it doesn't crash my entire computer like Counterstrike.
if i can get a job and pay off some other bills, i'll be sure to buy me another card. until then, i'll just play the Unreal Tourney MOD - strike force.

Did everything run slow as hell while in OGL mode before it crashed? Try copying the file 3dfxgl.dll from *default drive*/Sierra/Half-Life/gldrv and placing it in the Half-Life folder. That's what I had to do to play the game on my Voodoo 3.

i have the retail version of counterstrike, so that solution is out of the question.
i've also heard that the AMD K6-2 sucks, this true?

forgot to answer your question...
no, everything runs smooth as hell. even though it is 30-40 fps, it does not run slow or choppy. it just crashes

a friend of mine has probs similar to yours. He is using some generic banshee card and he thinks that's the prob.
