How much spam email do you get in a week (estimate)?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Never fear, I is here ...

Time again for another boring poll ... yeah, I knew you've been waiting for a new one, I can tell by the groans and yawns ... anyway, here's a poll suggestion submitted by our resident neck-biter, Shalome ...

How much estimated spam email do you get in a week? No, we don't want you to actually fire up your inbox and start COUNTING it, that's why I said "estimate" dummy!

Anyway, blah blah blah, poll away citizens ... and if you have any suggestions for the next poll, be sure to use this link and post your suggestions ...

heh, i get 150-250 on my spam account every week. i dont get any on my personal account, mainly because i dont give it out except to friends, and a select few sites.

I'm using hotmail and the only spam I get is that MSN news crap. That's only about once a month so I can live with that.

I use Mail Washer Program, it helps me sort the spam out by bouncing it back to the sender. Usually I get around 25 to 40 a week.

I usually use emails from tolitz.com and opentechsupport.net, and both of them use Spamassassin, which automatically tags suspected spam before they reach my inbox ... so I just created a rule in Outlook 2000 to automatically redirect email that is tagged "SPAM" directly to my Deleted Items folder ... there, I can just review them and delete them ...

I get more than 200 spam emails a week ... it's almost a given when you have the contact email address of OTS in all pages of this website

I dunno what it is with rogers as an ISP, but I receive NO spam on those addresses. They claimed magical email spam blocking capabilities, but I shrugged it off as marketting. Guess I was wrong.

I also get no spam at work. Or on my hotmail account.

Go figure!

No one likes you!

or

They know you have no money!

I have so much money my apartment looks like the treasure room from pirate movies!

Of course, that's mostly cause here in Canada we have both 1$ and 2$ coins. And I don't carry change in my pocket, so every night I just put my change in a pile somewhere... I have all these little piles of money.

I wonder how much I have in those piles? I wouldn't be surprised if there were 100$ or more.

I get more than 100 a week. My favorite subject line is: "Is J-Lo a J-Ho?". Who the hell comes up with that stuff?

Posted by: Chako

I don't get any at all.

I clicked "10 to 50" pieces a week.. but that's across three different e-mail accounts. Two of those accounts are on Hotmail, where I get 99% of my spam -- most of it from something called "emailhelo.com." When I try to filter it using Hotmail's filters, it just tells me that "in order to receive important administration messages about your account, this address cannot be marked as junk."

They come from names like "Michael," "Michele," "Shannon," "Chris," etc, with message titles like "You'll wanna see this," "You should read this!", "This is so cool," "REALLY fun stuff" etc. Then it's an ad for a cell phone or something.

So I just set up filters to deliver all emailhelo messages directly to the trash can.

I get all sorts of spam.

the level of spam you get is directly proportional to the number of 'free stuff', 'contest', 'newsletters' to the power of n which is how many companies they will sell your email address to.

so basically if you sign up for more than 3+ free stuff you should be getting around like 80 pieces of junk a day. WHEEE

not necessarily. My spam0@rogers.com account I used to sign up for anything that requires an email address... but I have yet to get ANY spam on it.

Go figure.

I'm getting too much SPAM at the moment, as a result of it i'm closing down the whole account that it has been associated with, and starting again.

I was getting boatloads of spam in my old ISP account -- tons of Asian spam that I couldn't read, that's the worst kind. It was as if someone submitted my e-mail to a spam list or something. I stopped checking that and moved to my cable modem ISP's e-mail and it is a ton better. I get only a few pieces of spam a day now.

Posted by: Soulja

I get about 350 messeges of spam a day. I think the longer you have your email the more spam you get.

Posted by: vulpes71

i normally get 20 a week in my office email, i wonder why our IT guys couldn't block it

Posted by: Xtren

All together I get more than 100 e-mails in the span of a week. I get a lot of e-mail from Opentechsupport.net, plus too much junk mail, which never gets filtered out of my inbox.

If I checked my E-mail every day (which is impossible because of my non-internet situation) I'd still have three pages of spam a day I need to take a week, sit down, and tell all the idiot spammers to take me off their mailing lists... or get a new e-mail address, which would stink, 'cause then I'd have to figure out who I needed to give my new one to. Unfortuneately, that wont happen until I get the internet at home, because there is a time limit on these darn library computers. Blah.

Posted by: Xtren

I would have gotten a new e-mail address a long time ago, but I'm not getting one for the same reason that you aren't Storm_Shot. There are too many people who know my address and I wouldn't be able to figure out who actually needs it.

I do the same thing, it just takes far too long to unsubscribe from all of your e-mails, and even if you do, you will still get junk mail from different senders the next time you check your mail.

I hardly get any........but it has enhanced my appetite!

Dont email them to unsubscribe. They will just tag that email address as "active" and send you some more junk.

I usually get 10-50 spam emails a week. In an aol screenname I had years ago I went into an aol chatroom and a week later I started getting lots and lots of spam email.

Posted by: Xtren

Thanks for the advice Nfested.

I don't go into any chatrooms though, so I don't get e-mail from there.

However there was this one time that my friend subscribed to CNN like 50 times, and I'd get like 60 CNN e-mails every hour.

Exactly, it's just really annnoying, and it fills up your inbox, which eventually overflows. Why would you want spam mail?

I don't check my mail alot but when i do my inbox has like over 200 messages an 70% of it is spam, or stupid chain letters

Posted by: Xtren

My block sender list has about 500 addresses in it, and I still get loads of other spam mail along with that. It just never stops coming in. I don't know how I got it, or how to get rid of it, and I gave up on blocking a while ago.
