USB Problems.... with 98

Trying to hook up a digital camera for a friend.. here is what is happening.. when we boot the system with the device connected it give a windows write protect error.. disconect reboot.. let windows load hook up the camera.. BSOD... every time.. tried a Smart Media Card reader.. same thing.. all is fine untill I plug in the reader.. and BSOD...

System is a 533 celleron with 190 megs of ram.. 98 se..

Reader was PNY.. I think.. I just gave up on it.. I think that it is really running windows 98 FIRST edition.. so I am going to go back and update it with 2nd edition.. see what that does.. really didn't have all my "tools" there to do this.. was spur of the moment..
