Im having burning problems. I cannot burn a cd at all. I have a 16x CD-RW Drive. I have windows XP. I have 3 burning softwares: Nero, CDRWIN, and Adaptec. They always burn an image onto the hard drive but will not burn a cd. I tried using the windows burner (drag and drop) and it did not work either.

Are you receiving any kind of error message whenever you attempt to burn with any of those programs?
It sounds like a problem with the ASPI layer, which is a common problem in Windows 2000 and XP.
Posted by: Soulja
It just starts burning them as images onto the hard drive. Adaptec says Unable To Start EZCD Creator.
Posted by: Gunslinger
Well, if Adaptec says something like "unable to start" or "unable to initialize engine" then one of two things is wrong (maybe both). The ASPI layer is not working, or there are some .dll files not properly registering upon installation.
We can fix both of those.
However, I'm still slightly confused.
There is a different procedure all together, from burning to a disc, and creating an image on the hard drive.
Do you know how to burn an image to a disc?
Posted by: Soulja
yes i know how to burn an image to a disc, ive done it many times. actually this problem happened after i burned some iso's and i made 2 virtual iso "drives" of 2 games.
I think ur right about the ASPI layer, do u know how to fix it?
Im going to TENESEE tonight and i need to burn some data cds for my laptop

ASPI driver for windows:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...y=aspi_v471.exe
Posted by: Soulja
ok so what do i do after i get this?
Posted by: Soulja
i got the driver and unziped it but
"EZCD Creator initialization has failed"
Nero burns to images
Windows (Drag and Drop) says theres an error
CDRWIN burns to an image
Dang! Do i gotta install the driver after i unzip it? How would i do that?
Posted by: Soulja
Okay now i unzipped the zip file that was in the exe file. It got like 15 or so files in it. I tried to go install a new driver and then tell windows to search the folder but it said it found no device information files in the folder.
Posted by: Outlaw
Go to the folder where you unpacked the files into and run aspiinst.exe
Restart windows when it's done.
Posted by: Soulja
Ok thanks, also Outlaw check ur PMs
Posted by: Soulja
That driver didnt do anything! EZCD still wont initialize. CDRWIN and Nero STILL just burn images to the hard drive. And i havent checked the windows burner.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

This file extracts by default to the c:\adaptec\aspi directory. If you have changed this directory, please note the directory you have chosen. For Windows 98, NT 4.0, Me and 2000, use the enclosed ASPIINST.EXE file to install the ASPI layer. For Windows XP, select Start - Run from the menu, and then the Browse button. Locate the INSTALL.BAT file in the directory the files extracted to and select the OPEN button. In the command box, add a space and either XP32 for Pentium I/II/III/IV processors or XP64 for Itanium processors. The command should look like: c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP32 or c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP64. Then select the OK button to run the XP installer.

Did you install the driver correctly?
Try removing your CD-RW drives and restarting your computer. Let Windows redetect and install the drivers.
I live in Tennessee. I went up to mountains today, actually.

That's the ASPI layer that I use. Works with all programs that I have used: Cdrwin, Adaptec, Nero, Winiso, and a few others.
Posted by: Soulja
i dont think its the ASPI, cuz i intsalled it the way you guys said and nothing happened
what do you think it is that wont let me burn?
P.S. My trip to teneseee was delayed, im going next friday now

I just realizes something, windows loaded this up:

Try uninstalling Easy CD Creator and DirectCD, and reboot when it's done.

this is a follow up to my burning problem. I unmounted all images and there are NO images on the hard drive now. Windows says i have:
CD DRIVE(E
CD-RW (F
DVD (G
CD DRIVE (H
What is up with this? I think this somehow is why i cant burn. I only have 2 drives, a CD-RW drive and a DVD drive.
Posted by: Tweaker
I will move this to your original thread.
Posted by: Soulja
NOW I GOT ALL THE WAY TO A K DRIVE. They change around everytime i come back to my computer. It says i got like 3 or 4 more DVD Drives. I think this is the reason i cant burn, it doesnt know which drive to burn to. Whats up with this??
Posted by: TotalRecall
Are you sure the images are gone?
Try removing all of them and rebooting. Hopefully Windows will detect just the 2 drives.
Posted by: Outlaw
Maybe you should try uninstalling the prog that makes your virtual cdrom drives?
A virusscan probably wouldn't hurt either, just in case...
Posted by: Soulja
ok i unistalled the software, and unmounted all images. Restarted, and the images are still there but they just show up as random drives. Nothing is in them! I have no clue how to remove them, I used device manager and uninstalled them, and they are detected on start up!
Windows is on cocaine or something
Posted by: TotalRecall
Remove whatever you used to make the images.
Posted by: Soulja
i did now there are no images. windows see's 2 cd drives. BUT.... it doesnt know that the 2nd drive is a CD-RW. This is why, all my burning programs are burning images to the hard drive, they do not know the drive is a CD burner (at least i think). Now how do i get it to recognize that the drive is a CD Burner?
Posted by: Soulja
YESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT BURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANX A SHITLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It lets me burn now!! (only on the windows burner powered by roxio)
Now i just gotta get my good software's to burn
