XP can't recognze sound hardware ???

Ok, my father is running an older computer (2 years). It came with Windows 95, and we upgraded to 98 i think. It came with an 8 gig hd, and 64mb ram. A few months ago he upgraded to 120mb ram. With his new job he got a free version of XP to install.

After we installed it it said that some of the hardware won't work with XP. The hardware is the modem (who cares... cable ie is workin) and the sound device.

We tried re-installing the drivers but that didn't work. Any suggestions/comments?

Thanks,
-Alec

What is the sound device?

Ok, remove the modem from your computer. Leaving it in will only cause you to have troubles. What sound card do you have? You do know that you must have XP (or atleast 2000) drivers for everything right? If your trying to install 95/98/ME drivers on an XP system..something will mess up guaranteed. So get XP drivers for your sound card. Since I haven't a clue about your card..you will have to search the manufacturers web page.

If you are still having problems..maybe it is time to upgrade that sound card. But you must first think..is it worth it for a newer OS. From what little I do know about your fathers computer..it might be a little underpowered for running XP. Maybe he might be better served going back to 98 if everything was working fine and he was happy with it.
