Trident XP4 Preview
Quote:

The XP4 is Trident's first desktop DirectX 8.1 GPU that is supposed to offer 80% of the performance of a GeForce4 Ti 4600 at $99. We know, talk is cheap, but let's see if Trident is on to something even reasonably viable with this little chip.

Let's hope this will make for some real competition, unlike another manufacturer.. (Matrox)

i dont consider 80% to be good. anybody else think 80% is worth buying?

Posted by: taco_fox

80% the performance of a GeForce4 4600 at less than $100? Yes, it is worth buying. Of course, I take price-to-performance into consideration. Will I, personally, buy it? No, because I am waiting for an NV30 card to upgrade my GF2 GTS.

This is a budget card. Not meant to be the best.

Remember that a Video card is only as good as its drivers.

What kind of reputation does trident have?

Posted by: taco_fox

The only time I've used a Trident card was when I had a 2mb one in my old 386. I have it up on my wall along side my Voodoo2.

And I just reminded myself that previews mean almost nothing when the reviewers don't have cards in their hands.

I would say that is worth it for 80% at $99.

But of course, they probably will be no where near the 80% area, have buggy drivers and other problems.

Previews = Sounds Good but all hype.

When is this slated to be released though? If its not out in less than a month, its not gonna be much. Expect a big price drop on Nvidia cards when the R300 comes out(even if it does suck :P).

I'm still using an old Trident 3DImage 9750. Hehe. The drivers are awesome (in my experience no bugs in it so far) and performance has stayed consistent for many years. At 80% of the performance of the GF4 at $100 US or Canadian?

Worth the money. But still, i rather wait for results.

What? Your worried about results and you still use an old video card?

I just gave my dad my 4 meg S3 Verge card for a pc he is building for my mom to use to play solitare on.. she is very computer illiterate.. my dad is running an 8 meg card.. and think's it's great..

I have a 6 meg card in my laptop.. but it still plays CS.. 20 fps..

PC has a GeForce 2 mx400 and it's great for games and surfing.. I plan on getting a better card.. but am waiting for the geforce 3's and 4's to drop in price..

I would go for this card if it preforms like they say it will. time will tell though..

That's 100 US dollars.

And SKYHN, you think the R300 is going to suck? Compared to what?
