Black&White Won't Run

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just tried to install Black&White on my computer. It won't run -- it begins to start (I see the Lionhead Studios and Black&White splash screens), and then when the game would start, it just gives me a black screen. The mouse seems to work -- the mouse cursor appears in a small box only in the middle of the page.

I think it may be my video card or settings, but I don't know what to tweak. But then again, there's no sound, either, so I'm not sure the game starts running. On the rare occasion I've been able to hit alt-tab and ctrl-alt-del, it says "Black and White [Not Responding]".

Things I already have done:
- i have DirectX 8.1
- I have all Windows updates
- I have the latest drivers for my video card
- I have patched the game installation

Here's my PC info:

Processor: Pentium III 500MHz (L1 cache: 32.0 Kb, L2 cache: 512.0 Kb)
BIOS: IBM IBMAFP6C 450V3.2 (18-May-1999)
Memory: 512 Mb (523 216 Kb)
CD ROM: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-3000(G SONY CD-RW CRX100E(H
Video Card: RADEON 7000 : 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit)
OS: Microsoft Windows 98 U.S. English 4.10 (build 1998)

Never mind.. I fixed my own problem.

It will run off the DVD drive, but not the CD drive. Weird.

Does the DVD drive have a lower drive letter?

Yup.

But now my creature stops responding. The patch was supposed to fix it, but apparently it didn't.

The creature won't move, and I can't click on it. Hitting "C" takes me to the creature and shows its stats.. It just stands in one place. I thought maybe it would wear out or starve to death and be regenerated, but that doesn't happen. It just stands there looking tired and sickly and skinny. *shrug*

Guess I have to start over.
