Question regarding laptops

I've been shopping around for laptops lately and one of my greatest fears has always been that the display will look like crap...
Now I know for a fact that laptop displays CAN look good if they wanted to... I remember looking at some Vaios in Circuit City and out of the three there, 2 looked kinda sorta ok and 1 looked fantastic. It might have been running at different resolutions but I don't remember if that was the case.
So that brings up my question. I'm looking at a Toshiba Satellite (5105-S501) and it looks like a pretty good computer for the price (compared to Dell and others). Only thing I'm unsure about is the display. It's SXGA rather than UXGA (which I have been configuring UXGA for on the Dell sites all this time). So I did some research on SXGA and UXGA... and the only thing I came up with is that SXGA maxes at 1400 resolution and UXGA maxes at 1600.
But since I'm going to run it only at 1024 resolution anyway... it won't matter whether I use SXGA or UXGA, right? They should look the same?

When it comes to LCD monitors, it is highly recommended that you run the screen at the native resolution.
Any other resolution will require the display to re-sample the data and that typically means extra blurryness that otherwise doens't need to be there.
Why are you stuck at 10x7?
My dad has the 5005-S507, and it's native resolution is 16x12, and being 15" is amazingly sharp and clear. The colors are very vibrant too.
But if he lowers the RES, the text, while getting bigger, gets more blurry than it's benefit of being bigger.
As far as colors and sharpness (they've pretty much always had a leg up on sharpness) goes, LCD's have come a long ways, most still lack the responsivness for being used for gaming, but text usage usually rocks.
