I see no point to it.

Blitzball kthx.
Too bad its physically impossible. Also the players would have to have gills like Tidus & Crew apparently did..

This will attract a large audience at first, but it will die down to a very small audience of people who think like you ("tight"), which eventually will lead to its being cancelled.
TNN Must be getting desperate.
Posted by: Blackknight
TNN is the channel that would do things like that. "The new TNN"
They show more star-trek than any other channel!
You know darky you don't have to be so condescending. I thought it was cool. Only time will tell.
Posted by: Darky!
I'm merely stating it as it is.
Posted by: 9:35
darky, they arent desperate, they are THE FASTEST GROWING NETWORK#
Posted by: -EG-raynor
if hockey and basketball draw large a audience, then i dont see why this wouldnt when its mixed with the 2 sports, and it would probably keep its appeal because the audience likes to see people collide midair and fall, and they like to watch someone get smashed into a wall then get back up and do a 3 point dunk in someones face, and rub it in, and i wished theyd put one of those courts in my back yard
Posted by: Canis Lupus
Not worth watching TNN, unless you're into wrasslin' and trek reruns ...
Posted by: Shalome
"Dude, it's like.. basketball.. but with.. like.. trampolines and body checking and shit!"
Sorry man, but the appeal of this game is kinda lost to anyone who doesn't think like a 15 year old boy.
No offense to the 15 year old boys.
Posted by: Darky!
a mix of hockey and basket ball?
Not hardly.
More like jumping on a trampoline, a sport most 5 year olds play, with basket ball, a sport most teenagers and adults can play.
The end result is nothing like a mix of hockey and basketball.
Edit: And to clarify, my idea of a mix of hockey and basket ball is hockey players using basketballs instead of hockey pucks, and no pading, just a jersey.
Or basketball players in pads, and a big fat, fast guy shoving people down who try to get in close enough to shoot the ball at the hoop.
Posted by: Canis Lupus
maybe if they had matt stone and trey parker as hosts, it'll last more than six months on the air... it's not like this kind of hybrid game is an original idea

You have crossed the line, sir!
Jumping on trampolines is fun, dude.
Make sure you drinks lots of water before doing it or you'll get a lot of headaches.. But don't drink too much or you'll throw up ..
Posted by: Darky!
That pictures corrupt laggy, or sometihng. That, or IE is fubared, since I just emptied IE cache, and the guy on the rights midsection still looks funky.

I never said it wasn't fun.

The new TNN is one of the worst channel changes I have ever seen.
Where do I start...."We’ve got POP" is pathetic. Sounds like a beverage commercial.
The highlight though for me, are the moronic imbeciles they get from the South who talk during commercial times...drooling about bay watch or talking about wrestling. Shudders.
Pathetic..and certainly not intellectual in any shape or form.

how can it not be like hockey and basketball when u have some guy cram you into a wall and then take the ball from you and not get penalized, just like hockey, its got the goals and the ball, and all the skills needed to play a game of basketball...
Posted by: Darky!
Its going through the same changes MTV did.
And raynor, hockey isn't all brawls. You left out the part with the ice, hockey pucks, sticks, padding, etc.
its more like basket ball with fewer rules and trampolines.
Posted by: AK47
This gets my vote for worst thread ever. Started out fine, it just degenerated into pointless bickering . Awesome!
For the record, TNN kicks ass. Any channel that plays that much Next Generation is a favorite of mine.
Posted by: 9:35
"if hockey and basketball draw large a audience, then i dont see why this wouldnt when its mixed with the 2 sports"
well using that logic, why not combine pizza and ice cream? people love both, why not mix them for everyone to enjoy?
Posted by: Cheese
Agrees with AK, this thread induces vomiting. Raynor, even though everyone is shitting on your post, this sport still looks like a decent watch. I was at Blockbuster the other night and it was on one of their tvs, and i couldn't help but watch it for a while...and I'm 18!
Posted by: Cheese
Granted though, the novelty will probably wear off, but I don't have cable anyway, so its not like I'm really gonna watch it. But I think lumping it in with the XFL is kinda unfair. The XFL took something that was already successful, added a few microphones and camera angles and touted it as the next best thing. Slamball is a different kind of sport, if you can call it that.
Posted by: redwench
seems to be about as much of a sport as American Gladiators was. you watch to see people getting hurt
Posted by: Bobaroo
I guess the first time you watch it, it could look pretty cool. But after that It is boring and stupid. It becomes the same thing over and over.

SLAMBALL = Full contact basketball.....

Anyone who's actually played basketball knows it's already a contact sport to begin with ... unless you're one of those wussy outside shooters...

TNN just takes old ideas and makes them their own.
Comedy Central's Battle Bots was popular, next season TNN had Robot Wars (and TLC had Robotica).
TNN bought Baywatch rerun, ST:TNG reruns, and some others.
TNN shows a lot of really crappy wraslin'.
Basically, it's an uneducated, testosterone induced, channel for guys.
As for Slamball, I think the 'negative' opinions are right. It'll be popular for a while, but in reality, it sucks. But we'll be watching it to see people run into each other. Maybe someone will get their head lopped off on the rim.
Posted by: Cheese
Robot Wars on PBS was the first. It was an British import.

Mr. Heathen said 'full' contact.
Any sport where you get a penalty for slapping a guy on the wrist is not full contact. Everything is a foul in basketball.
Full contact, it aint. And yes, I played basketball for quite a few years.
Even managed to shoot on the wrong hoop

Then TNN bought that series also; I thought they came up with it based on Battle Bots.
They don't have very many original shows...

huh? I wasn't talking about baseketball...
If you have tried mixing it up inside the paint, boxing out and going for rebounds, or even trying to defend from a post-up play, yet still insist that basketball isn't a contact sport, then you were probably playing against little girls...
Posted by: Blackknight
Oh, jeeze, I'm sorry, I made something the rest of the world likes to call a typo!!!!!!! Maybe you'd like to join us!!
It's not a damn contact sport! Football is a contact sport? Why? Becuase you use pads and you dive at eachother! Hockey is? Why? Becuase you can knock people with out a penalty!
Mixing it in the paint. Whatever. If basketball is your idea of a contact sport, then I guess you think baseball is one too.
Posted by: Null Actor
Ehhh... if it was a typo, it was a funny one. Of course, you'd have to have seen the movie Baseketball to really understand it.
Posted by: -EG-raynor
there are some full contact points in baseball, but it hardly ever happens... ex. runner running into the catcher to attempt to knock the ball outa the catchers glove and score the point, and one i saw while in JV league, the first base men got plowed by the runner becuase he got in the way, resulting in a broken arm and dislocated knee, and the umps wont allow you to slide into first base
Posted by: redwench
if the first baseman was such an idiot as to stand in the way, he deserved whatever injury he got. its against the rules to block a runner. even i know that.
Posted by: Blackknight
Not at home plate!
Annnd.....I've actually slid into first base and so have other ppl, they allow it sometimes. But sliding into first is just stupid becuase there is no tag, it is a force out. So by sliding you just apply friction and lose your speed when you can just run through.

Slamball looks pretty cool i am going to watch it sometime

SlamBall is another weak attempt at a ratings grab aimed at the sub-100 audience.
Seems to be working.
Sad.

hmm, why create a new sport that isnt proven? if they want high flying hard hitting action that will be a pioneer on american cable, why not televise rugby (i get to see it every so often on fsne. not often enough) or perhaps broomball (sorry forgot the german term for it. imagine lacrosse on ice, or perhaps full contact curling). as for full contact sports (not televised) i dunno about the rest of y'all but no matter what me and my friends are playing its full contact (ever been tackled while playing uno?) heh and ive come away from basketball with many a busted lip or bloodied nose. so really all every one is saying is that the multimillon players are wussies. ill take a simplistic game of muckle over a merchandising contract anyday

Well I just thought he might explain his extremly superior attitude. I guess nova is just to almighty and god like for us sub-100 folk.
We just stare at the screen and eat popcorn, all day, because it's a flashy and new show.
Posted by: redwench
nova is superior. he had the good sense to leave the mod position.

And I was evil enough to nominate Shal to replace me. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

A dancing banana, just for you, Nova!

I regret my decision already.

back to the point
I think slamball is a half decent attempt at sports entertainment. id rather sit and watch guy flying though the air and stuff instead of them just running back and forth taking their 3 pointers like in real basketball. And to who ever mentioned American Gladiatiors, you can catch it on TNN around Noon.
Posted by: Cheese
Hmmm, I actually watched this "sport" on TV for the first time tonight, and guess what? I was entertained. It's not so bad, I don't see why its put down so harshly by almost everyone here. I lose a lot of respect for people who assume stupidity on people who don't share the same tastes.
Posted by: -EG-raynor
slamball keeps me more entertained then football, baseball, and basketball combined, football, basketball, and baseball, brakes and pauses during the game, this is just non stop action, and last week someone got smashed through the wall, great stuff
Posted by: Ghetto Blasta
Geez, next thing you know, "the new TNN" will take a perfectly good pastime like kickin' a hack around, stick "extreme" infront of it and televise it! Suddenly, I'll have dirty, crazed, sub-70 trailer trash kids tackling me and scream "Wooo! I luve actstreme hacky sark!" whilst I try to start a hack cirlce. *shudders*
