IBM Laying Off Over 15,000

IBM is in the process of cutting near 15,000 jobs after a loss in the second quarter. About 50% have already left IBM, and the rest are expected to be let go before the end of September:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. is cutting more than 15,600 jobs -- above what had been expected -- in its computer-services and microelectronics businesses, according to a regulatory filing made public on Tuesday.
IBM, based in Armonk, N.Y., said it will cut 14,213 jobs, mostly in its services business, which had about 150,000 employees as of the end of last year. IBM overall had about 320,000 employees at the end of 2001. Another 1,400 cuts will come from its microelectronics unit, IBM said. The company will be adding about 30,000 workers with its planned acquisition of consulting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers for $3.5 billion in cash and stock.

Hey All,
For some odd reason this lay-off isnt surprising to me becuz compaq did the same thing. Only this time i believe IBM is doing this so they can open up shop some where in Mexico where the hispanics will work for a dollar a day.

i doubt anyone in the "computer-services" field would work for a dollar a day. these arent line workers in a plant.

Yes, true, but then again IBM is taking the same downfall as compaq, and besides hispanics work harder for less money than americans will. I didn't really mean a dollar a day just they would work for little pay and little benefits so they could have that job. Maybe not a dollar a day, but pretty damn close. I dunno maybe $5.75/ hr. (which is unheard of in the states). Comp. Techs now-a-days will only settle for about $55/hour or no less than a 6-figure salary. So case in point, IBM would definitely eliminate the high-overhead while maintaining a low payroll percentage away from the profits....BINGO, more money for the CEO's to enjoy in Barbados while cheating on their wives on the hot young slut on the corner in a Yacht in the carribean.*
*what was just stated was not an actual depiction of what ceo's really do.
Man, i got watch what i say nowadays because of the FBI watching every thing that is typed sent or downloaded off the internet. anyway got some Algebra II homework in my Computer Applications class. PEACE OUT

um, "computer services". that means they kinda have to speak english. and anyone that has these kinds of skills doesnt work cheap, regardless of the country. dont confuse illiterate farm hands looking for any work they can get with a highly skilled professional.
the people that work so cheaply in mexico and asia are uneducated and unskilled. that is why they work cheap, not because of geography or race.
