Intel Unveils .09 Micron Process

Setting the bar again, Intel has unveiled a new .09 micron process:

HILLSBORO, Ore., August. 13, 2002 -- Intel Corporation today unveiled several technology breakthroughs that the company has integrated into its new 90-nanometer (nm) process, the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing process in the industry. Intel already has used this process to build record-breaking silicon structures and memory chips. Intel will put this process into volume manufacturing next year using 300 mm wafers.

This new 90 nm (a nanometer is one-billionth of a meter) process combines higher-performance, lower-power transistors, strained silicon, high-speed copper interconnects and a new low-k dielectric material. This is the first time all of these technologies will be integrated into a single manufacturing process.

The press release is here.

These guys better get cracking on carbon tubes and other technologies, cause they are getting close to hitting the physical barrier of how small the process can get on chips.

Now if only amd could get .13 right..

When the hammer comes out, we will all be saying "Intel who?"

Posted by: Null Actor

Yeah, just like with the K6, the K6 2, the Athlon, the Athlon XP...

Pardon me if I don't break out the champagne...

Hehee, I seem to remember someone saying something similar four years ago ... I still remember who Intel is, tho

Nova..you forgot the K6 3 in that line up.

I have a hunch that the AMD Hammer will be luke warm at best due to no software support. At worst..a complete flop for anyone other then a server.

getting hosered by the K6-2 and K6-3 chipsets is what moved me back to intel. AMD would do better if they supplied a quality chipset. but i think its kinda funny everytime AMD almost catches intel they release a new technology heh

So did everyone else

Yes, true.

I reckon I have the only one in Northern Ontario.
