Tired of Ads???

But, you don't want to install any special software to keep them from downloading?

If you're on dial-up, ads consume too much of your bandwidth with unnecessary graphics.

I came across this today. Very novel and non-intrusive. It's simply a hosts file. Ads show up only as "404" errors because the ad servers don't resolve by name anymore.

I'll leave it to you to determine how to use this. Because the author/owner of the file has his website listed as the "goto" resource. I've attached the latest file (pretty old anyway) in zip form for your convenience.

Here is a snippet from the file:
Code:
# This file has been configured by Gorilla for ad blocking
# It was last updated on July 9th, 2000 from the list by Stephen Martin
# Check the following websites for updates:
#
# This file originated on Gorilla's site at:
#
# You may use this file free of charge, but all copies of it should include the
# author's web address (listed above) so that people may see how to use it correctly
#
# This is a HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
