Open Tech Support is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven site that promotes free technical support, as well as a fun community for both techies and newbies to converge upon.
Originally started in 1999 (under the name The Big Red X) as a hobby site to support the tech community that has been started in Blizzard Entertainment's matchmaking service, Battle.Net (specifically in a channel by the same name), Open Tech Support slowly grew into something that was not limited to just gaming. OTS.Net began to embrace technology as an whole, spreading its wings to encompass both hardware and software, as well as other subsets of computer technology that its host of members and volunteers can share their expertise on.
And year after year, Open Tech Support keeps growing - its members and volunteers increasing in numbers, and the scope of the site becoming more and more ambitious. At its heart, OTS.Net is still a hobby site - an informal gathering of intellectuals and good samaritans, who are willing to share their knowledge without expecting anything in return.
Yes, Open Tech Support is all about helping people, without any monetary expectations. It continues to survive courtesy of the founder's own pockets, generous voluntary donations, and the interest and enthusiasm of its members and volunteers, who keep visiting the site day after day to check out who they can help, as well as share their own thoughts about anything from computers to chicken soup.
Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for life.
We at Open Tech Support do not make it a habit of spoonfeeding the answers to you. We try and help you figure things out for yourself, with suggestions and recommendations. We value our community greatly, and we try to mold it into an avenue of free ideas, improvisation and resourcefulness.
The informal and voluntary nature of Open Tech Support may intimidate some people who think that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Which is true. The free help you get at Open Tech Support is not really free. It requires that you pay - that is - pay us a visit tomorrow, and the day after that, and the days beyond, and take part in our exchange of ideas.
We're here to help others and have fun. Please join us.
